Because a recent study found that it takes 90% fewer carbon emissions to produce vegan meatballs than beef meatballs, PETA’s “cow” mascot will hoof it downtown tomorrow, the day before Earth Day, to give away tasty vegan meatball subs to passersby.

When:    Wednesday, April 21, 6:15 p.m.

Where:    121W. Broadway Ave. (near the intersection with Highway 1), Fairfield

“It’s official—vegan meatballs are 90% better for the environment and 100% kinder to cows,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s ‘cow’ mascot will moove people to choose plant-powered, planet-protecting vegan meals on Earth Day and every other day.”

Animals used for food live in squalid, crowded conditions and die in terror at slaughterhouses. PETA’s Earth Day campaign includes billboards and partnerships with more than 100 vegan-friendly restaurants. The group points out that animal agriculture drains freshwater supplies; pollutes groundwater, lakes, and rivers; and is the leading cause of ocean dead zones, species extinction, and habitat destruction—and by some estimates, it generates more greenhouse-gas emissions than all the world’s transportation systems combined.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
