Ahead of Super Bowl LX, PETA has drafted its picks for the game day hotspots serving up the nation’s best vegan wings—and SLC’s own Piper Down Pub is a winner. The vegan-friendly eatery’s plant-powered “spicy tiger wings” come coated with zesty lemon pepper dry rub or tossed in a choice of buffalo, teriyaki, orange chicken, BBQ, agave sriracha, or Cajun sauce, and are served with a side of creamy vegan ranch.
“Piper Down Pub is leveling upgameday nosh with its delicious spicy tiger wings, which are as finger-licking good as they are kind to chickens,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “Every winner on PETA’s list shows that doing right by animals and your arteries ain’t no thing but a vegan wing.”
Chickens form complex social structures, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do. Yet every year, hundreds of millions of chickens are killed for Super Bowl Sunday alone. At slaughterhouses, mechanized blades slit their throats—often while they’re still conscious—and many are scalded to death in de-feathering tanks. Piper Down Pub will receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights. Other winners on PETA’s list include Triangle Tavern in Philadelphia; Fifth House in Omaha; Life on Mars in Seattle; and Radical Rabbit in Nashville.
Piper Down Pub is located at 1492 S. State St., Salt Lake City, and is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
