Dough-lightful! Vancouver’s Lucky’s Doughnuts Wins Top Ten Best Vegan Doughnut Shop Award

Cue the sprinkles, because just in time for National Doughnut Day (June 5), PETA is recognizing Canadian doughnut shops that dish up the most delectable donuts without using eggs or dairy—and Vancouver’s own Lucky’s Doughnuts has made the top ten list. The shop offers a variety of tasty vegan treats that are also gluten-friendly, including the Chocolate Strawberry Ring dipped in strawberry glaze and topped with strawberry powder; the Triple Chocolate smothered in dark chocolate ganache and lightly sprinkled with cocoa nibs; the Vanilla Sprinkled; Vanilla Ring; Vanilla Pistachio; and Mango Chocolate dipped in mango glaze and cocoa nibs.

Chickens form complex social structures, and cows develop friendships over time. Yet in the egg industry, hens are crammed into wire cages or packed into filthy sheds where they can’t even spread their wings, and in the dairy industry, mother cows are forcibly impregnated, and their beloved calves are torn away from them shortly after birth so that humans can take their milk. Just like the animals who are violently killed for meat, hens’ and mother cows’ lives end at the slaughterhouse.

Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals each year and reduces their own risk of developing heart disease and cancer. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help those looking to make the switch.

Lucky’s Doughnuts will receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights.
