Dough-lightful! Two Montreal Doughnut Shops Win Top Ten Best Vegan Doughnut Award

Cue the sprinkles, because just in time for National Doughnut Day (June 5), PETA is recognizing Canadian doughnut shops that dish up the most delectable donuts without using eggs or dairy—and Montreal’s own La Beignerie andLéché Desserts have made the top ten list.
La Beignerie serves a crave-worthy lemon-cream-filled donut with maple-flamed meringue, along with a wide assortment of other delicious vegan doughnut flavors, including Crème Brûlée, Caramel Passion, and Cinnamon and Sugar. The shop also offers vegan ice cream cakes and Magnum-style bars.
Léché Desserts serves a scrumptious Passion Fruit doughnut dipped in a silky passion fruit glaze. The shop’s mouthwatering vegan doughnut options also include Ginger and Spices, Sugar & Spice, Maple, and Raspberry.

Chickens form complex social structures, and cows develop friendships over time. Yet in the egg industry, hens are crammed into wire cages or packed into filthy sheds where they can’t even spread their wings, and in the dairy industry, mother cows are forcibly impregnated, and their beloved calves are torn away from them shortly after birth so that humans can take their milk. Just like the animals who are violently killed for meat, hens’ and mother cows’ lives end at the slaughterhouse.

La Beignerie and Léché Desserts will each receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights. Léché Desserts is located at 640 Courcelle St., in Montreal, and is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
