A pod of PETA supporters will make a splash at SeaWorld on Saturday to alert potential parkgoers that the abusement park’s anniversary represents 60 long years of animal suffering. The protesters will point out that more than 40 orcas and over 500 other dolphins and whales have died—many prematurely—in SeaWorld’s barren concrete tanks and that dolphins in its breeding programs are sexually abused and sometimes drugged so they can’t fight back.

“Sixty years of imprisoning dolphins, orcas, and other marine mammals in cramped concrete tanks and depriving them of everything that’s natural and important to them is a cause for shame, not celebration,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges everyone to shun this exploitative hellhole until it finally releases these long-suffering animals to seaside sanctuaries.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
