Following the sweet success of Denny’s new Plant-Based Pancake Slam—which includes vegan pancakes made with flaxseeds, cinnamon, and brown sugar, served with crispy hash browns and seasonal fruit—PETA is recognizing the restaurant with its Ultimate Vegan Pancake Award for rising to the top of the stack as the first major U.S. diner chain to offer a fully vegan version of its classic breakfast staple.

“Denny’s Plant-Based Pancake Slam is feeding the growing need for delicious vegan breakfasts that are free from cholesterol- and cruelty-laden ingredients like meat, eggs, and dairy,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “Breakfast is batter with vegan pancakes, and PETA encourages other chains to follow Denny’s compassionate lead.”
Chickens feel joy, fear, and pain, just as humans do, and mother hens teach calls to their chicks before they even hatch. But in the egg industry, they’re kept in overcrowded sheds where they don’t even have enough room to spread their wings—and when their egg production drops, they’re sent to slaughterhouses where their throats are slit, often while they’re still conscious. Cows produce milk for the same reason humans do—to nourish their young. But in the dairy industry, calves are torn away from their mothers within a day of birth so humans can steal their milk, causing both mother and child extreme distress.
Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals a year; reduces their risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, and cancer; and dramatically shrinks their carbon footprint.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free vegan starter kits to anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
