New York – A giant dancing “goose” will lead a flock of PETA supporters and members of Humane Long Island’s Duck Defenders program in crowing about Bed Bath & Beyond’s bankruptcy filing with signs proclaiming, “When You Sell Down, You Go Down!” The revelry follows PETA actions calling on the chain to stop selling bedding and other items made with down. PETA’s chilling exposés of the down industry show birds suffering from gaping and bloody wounds, languishing in dirty sheds and areas strewn with feces, and being stabbed in the neck while still conscious.

When:    Wednesday, April 26, 3 p.m.

Where:    Outside Bed Bath & Beyond, 620 Sixth Ave., New York

“Every down item represents the pain and suffering of terrified birds, yet this retailer kept on selling it,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA celebrates the end of down sales at Bed Bath & Beyond and urges everyone to buy only animal-friendly materials.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear or abuse in other any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
