Dallas Restaurant to Face Ruckus Over Foie Gras Cruelty

As part of a nationwide blitz on Uchi restaurants, animal advocates will gather outside the chain’s Maple Avenue location on Saturday with images of workers force-feeding ducks for foie gras, slamming the business for offering the cruelly produced dish banned by numerous companies, including Costco, IKEA, Sam’s Club, Target, and Whole Foods and more than a dozen countries.
When: Saturday, December 17, 7–10 p.m.
Where: Outside Uchi, 2817 Maple Ave., Dallas
The duck defenders will expose the hideous production process behind foie gras, including that several pounds of fat and grain are pumped into birds’ stomachs every day through tubes shoved down their throats, causing their livers to swell to up to 10 times their normal size. Investigations into foie gras farms in the U.S. and Europe have revealed sick, dying, and dead animals, some with holes in their necks from force-feeding injuries.
“Dishing up the diseased livers of force-fed birds is appalling and unjustifiable,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Uchi to come into the 21st century and ban this ‘delicacy of despair.’”
Similar actions will take place on the same day outside Uchi eateries in Denver and Austin, Texas.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
