Los AngelesWhat:    Coalition LA has teamed up with PETA to co-design an all-vegan leather jacket (available from the PETA Catalog) with the message “Go With the Faux” emblazoned on the back—and to celebrate the jacket’s launch, actor and influencer Daniella Monet; owner of eco-conscious boutique GALERIE.LA, Dechel McKillian; fashion stylist Emmanuelle Rienda; and PETA Assistant Manager of Clothing Campaigns Christina Sewell will participate in a vegan fashion panel at the Coalition LA showroom on August 1.

When:    Wednesday, August 1, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. (panel starts at 1 p.m.)

Where:    Coalition LA Showroom, 1016 Towne Ave., #210, Los Angeles

“Coalition LA is out to prove that there’s no reason to breed and kill animals or pollute the planet for fashion,” says Coalition LA Creative Director Darci Wong. “We’re proud to work with PETA to hold the fashion industry to a higher standard.” The brand will be showcasing its collaboration with PETA this fall at WWDMAGIC, the largest trade show in the U.S. for women’s fashion.

“Compassionate consumers can wear their values on their sleeve with our biker-chic, cruelty-free leather jacket,” adds Sewell. “PETA looks forward to celebrating the launch of this game-changing garment with a meeting of the minds of vegan fashion’s top players.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—notes that recent data from the Higg Materials Sustainability Index found that cow leather has almost three times the negative environmental impact of polyurethane vegan leather.

“Almost all of us grew up eating meat, wearing leather, and going to circuses and zoos. We never considered the impact of these actions on the animals involved. For whatever reason, you are now asking the question: Why should animals have rights?” READ MORE
