Hot dog! On Friday, PETA will be at Mount Trashmore Park to celebrate Independence Day by giving away hundreds of free vegan wieners along with vegan starter kits to encourage people to enjoy a flavorful and festive Fourth while being kind to animals.

“Let’s be frank: truly tasty vegan foods are everywhere now and they allow us all to enjoy familiar foods while letting animals enjoy their lives,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges people to extend liberty and justice to all by celebrating with animal-free fare on Independence Day and every day.”

Where: South side of parking lot at Expressway Dr & Edwin Dr, Mount Trashmore Park, 310 Edwin Dr., Virginia Beach

When: Friday, July 4, 2 p.m.

PETA points out that cows mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other, and pigs dream when they sleep, recognize their own names, and show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed. Each person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals every year and reduces their own risk of suffering from cancer, heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and obesity.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
