Chaos at Carden Circus! PETA to Raise a Ruckus in Sheboygan Over Big-Top Cruelty

Bearing signs reading, “Animals Suffer at Carden Circuses,” PETA supporters and local animal allies will rally outside the Carden Circus show at the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Arena on Tuesday, calling on it to get exploited camels, bison, zebras, and ponies out of its shows and go animal-free.
“Cruelty takes center stage at Carden Circus, which hauls suffering animals from town to town and forces them to perform stupid tricks in front of rambunctious crowds,” says PETA President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is urging Carden Circus to end its shameful animal acts and asking everyone to stay away until it does.”
Where: Outside the Sheboygan Lakers Ice Arena, 1202 S. Wildwood Ave. (at the intersection of S. Wildwood Avenue and Julson Court), Sheboygan
When: Tuesday, June 2, 3 p.m.
Why: In nature, camels live in tight-knit groups called caravans and express their feelings with groans, moans, and roars, and bison live in massive herds and fiercely protect their calves. The Carden Circus is one of the last remaining shows that still use wild animals, who are deprived of any semblance of a natural life and are confined to backstage pens or cramped trailers when not being forced to perform. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited Carden for a litany of violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act, including failing to provide adequate veterinary care, failing to provide safe enclosures and sufficient space for animals, failing to handle animals properly, and failing to provide tigers with proper nutrition.
