A giant jailed “marmoset” and stuffed “monkeys” will join PETA supporters outside the Inn on Fifth on Thursday during a private reception for University of Massachusetts–Amherst (UMass) donors to call on Chancellor Javier Reyes, who is scheduled to attend, to shut down the school’s cruel, irrelevant, and deadly menopause experiments on marmosets.

Where:    The Inn on Fifth, 699 Fifth Ave. S., Naples

When:     Thursday, March 14, 5 p.m.

UMass experimenter Agnès Lacreuse cuts into and screws electrodes onto monkeys’ skulls, cuts into their necks, deprives them of water, restrains them for hours at a time, and torments them in various other ways, purportedly to study menopause, which marmosets don’t naturally experience. To simulate menopause, she cuts out their ovaries and uses hand warmers on their bodies to mimic hot flashes. She has squandered $5 million in taxpayer funds on this farce.

“Donors should cut their gifts until UMass stops tormenting fragile marmosets in curiosity-driven studies that have no relevance to human health,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges the UMass community to demand better, animal-free research.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone
and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
