If you’re lucky enough to live in Omaha, Nebraska, you might run into Mick Ridgway and his vegan hot-dog stand Fuaxmaha Hot Dogs.

It wasn’t long ago that “The Dogfather” questioned whether vegan dogs would sell in Omaha. Chef Isa Chandra Moskowitz of the local vegan restaurant Modern Love encouraged Ridgway to stick with his initial idea. Fauxmaha sold 70 hot dogs on its opening day, and business has been booming ever since.

Flavors include the BBQ Dog, with coleslaw, smoky coconut bacon, and barbecue sauce; the Banh Mi, with pickled carrots and radish, Sriracha-mayo, mint, and cilantro; and The Original, with a choice of ketchup, mustard, dill relish, onions, jalapeños, sauerkraut, and Sriracha.

Did we mention Fauxmaha’s dogs are 100 percent handmade? Those are words you don’t usually associate with hot dogs.

Ridgway sets up outside different businesses during the week and at bars or music venues on the weekends, so if you’re not a resident of Omaha, be sure to put Fauxmaha Hot Dogs on your itinerary the next time you take a road trip!
