Your Guide to Cruelty-Free and Vegan Cosplay Makeup and Costumes

Published by PETA Staff.

Seems like there’s always a Comic-Con in the near future, right? Lucky for us, vegan cosplay is easy. For costumes, avoid feathers and animal-derived materials such as fur, leather, silk, and wool.

When it comes to makeup, check PETA’s database of cruelty-free brands to ensure that you don’t support one that tests on animals, and check ingredients to make sure that the product you’re using is vegan (no animal-derived ingredients). We’ve even included a little cruelty-free cosplay inspo from the master of special effects makeup, Joo Skellington. (His transformation will leave you completely and utterly shook.)

That’s not CGI, folks. You can watch as Skellington transforms himself into a lion right before your eyes using all-vegan cosmetics and products that are certified cruelty-free. Although his captivating costume looks realistic, the materials he uses to turn into the king of the jungle are free of real fur. Make sure that your cosplay is as compassionate as it is cool by using cruelty-free special effects products and materials, such as the ones you’ll find on this page.
