First of Its Kind: Cruelty-Free Eye Drops Are Finally a Thing

Published by Zachary Toliver.

Did you just finish watching Earthlings or, perhaps on a lighter note, this pig chilling out and cuddling with his new family? Then most likely, your eyes are bright red from having a good cry. Thankfully, for the first time ever, there’s a cruelty-free eye drop to help you at least look like you’ve collected yourself.

We’re excited that Clear Conscience, LLC, has launched the first-ever cruelty-free Redness Reliever Eye Drops and Lubricant Eye Drops. In 1999, Clear Conscience made our cruelty-free list when it became the first company to offer a multipurpose contact lens solution not tested on animals.

As a PETA-certified cruelty-free company, Clear Conscience (and its suppliers) do not conduct, commission, or pay for any tests on animals for any of its ingredients, formulations, or products anywhere in the world.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which regulates the safety testing of contact lens products, does not explicitly require that contact lens solutions be tested on animals. But our research indicates that manufacturers of contact lens products are resistant to eliminating animal tests from their testing procedures.

Because contact lens products go into the eyes, they must undergo more extensive safety tests than, for example, cosmetics products, which primarily go on the surface of the skin. Manufacturers use this reason and their fear of consumer lawsuits as excuses to continue testing on animals despite the questionable validity of such tests and the existence of alternatives.

Keep a clear conscience and always choose cruelty-free products.
