Vegan Fast-Food Joint VeganBurg Opens in California

Published by PETA Staff.

Fast-food restaurant VeganBurg, which got its start in Singapore, recently opened its first U.S. location in San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.

The vegan burger joint offers nine burgers, including the popular Smoky BBQ, a mushroom-based patty slathered with sweet, smoky barbecue sauce and all the fixin’s.

Another favorite is the Cracked Mayo burger, a soy-based patty topped with mustard, gherkin pickles, and red onion. The fries are thick-cut and sprinkled with organic seaweed flakes instead of salt.

The vegan fast-food restaurant’s origin story is all about health—founder Alex Tan adopted a plant-based diet in an effort to improve his health, and (no surprise!) it worked. Newly vegan, he noticed a lack of plant-based burgers in Singapore and began to experiment with making his own. He compiled a menu, and the first VeganBurg was born.

Fast-forward five years, and now foodies in San Francisco can enjoy Tan’s fantastic menu. We might be a little jealous.
