Your Guide to Michelin-Recommended Vegan Restaurants in the U.S. (and Abroad!)

Published by Sara Oliver.

Fine dining is going vegan! The prestigious Michelin Guide now includes several vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants. They create indulgent dishes without harming animals—think creamy dairy-free sauces, fish-free sushi, and other rich flavors from plants. Here’s where to find the best vegan fine dining experiences.

What Is the Michelin Guide?

The Michelin Guide is a globally recognized restaurant rating system that awards stars to exemplary restaurants worldwide and designates other restaurants as “Michelin Recommended.”

Michelin-Starred Vegan Restaurants You Need to Try

Mita (Washington, D.C.)

Mita elevates Latin American cuisine with a plant-based twist, earning a Michelin star for its bold, seasonal dishes. Its ‘vegetable experience’ menu highlights creative flavors like charred banana, arracacha (a South American root vegetable), and yuba (tofu skin) prepared in innovative ways.

Vegan Restaurants Recommended in the Michelin Guide

Soda Club (New York, NY)

Craving creamy pasta? You should check out Soda Club, a modern vegan wine bar with a vast Italian menu—including arancini, six pasta dishes, and vegan cannoli for dessert. Michelin has also designated Soda Club as Bib Gourmand, meaning you won’t have to break the bank for a high-quality meal.

Avant Garden (New York, NY)

A high-end vegan and kosher-certified restaurant focusing on unique plant-centered dishes like celery root pasta, sunchoke toast, and hen of the woods.

Millennium (Oakland, CA)

From Filipino-style BBQ Glazed Tempeh to Tandoori Tofu Paneer, this vegan restaurant’s menu features dishes inspired from around the world. Millennium also boasts Michelin’s Bib Gourmand award.

Shizen (San Francisco, CA)

A vegan sushi restaurant and izakaya that specializes in innovative Japanese dishes created from unique ingredients like tapioca, mountain yam, konjac, and bean curd.

Michelin-Starred Restaurants With Vegan Options

Oyster Oyster (Washington, D.C.)

This Michelin-starred restaurant has a separate vegan menu, which highlights seasonal vegetables and mushrooms.

Dirt Candy (New York, NY)

A Michelin-starred vegetarian restaurant where staff can make almost every meal vegan upon request.

Per Se (New York, NY)

This three-Michelin-starred restaurant provides a nine-course vegetable-tasting menu, which they can make vegan with advance notice.

Vegan Michelin Stars Worth Traveling For

While most of the restaurants in this guide are in the U.S., a few international gems have also earned Michelin recognition: Dutch establishment De Nieuwe Winkel (two stars), Germany’s Seven Swans, Switzerland’s KLE, London’s Plates, and Seoul’s Légume (all one star). Berlin’s Bonvivant is the latest Michelin-starred restaurant to go vegan, joining this growing global group.

Bonvivant Cocktail Bistro (Berlin, Germany)

Built around a “leaf-to-root” philosophy, Berlin’s Bonvivant Cocktail Bistro transforms seasonal, locally sourced ingredients into stunning dishes that celebrate every part of the plant. Vegetables take center stage here—not as sides, but as culinary stars in their own right.

By day, guests flock to the restaurant for its beloved weekend brunch menu, which offers standouts like crispy mushroom toast and fluffy pancakes topped with rum caramel, pear, and ginger butter—shareable sweet and savory dishes designed for a relaxed, indulgent breakfast experience. By night, the space shifts into an elegant dining experience featuring a creative six- or seven-course seasonal tasting menu that changes regularly based on what’s fresh and available.

De Nieuwe Winkel (Nijmegen, Netherlands)

Renowned chef Emile van der Staak brings his plant-focused vision to life in this urban restaurant, where guests can watch his team create bold, climate-conscious cuisine in the open kitchen. From caramelized miso and seaweed turned into a complex dessert to almond-based “brie,” his cooking reimagines familiar flavors in surprising ways.

Seven Swans (Frankfurt, Germany)

If Frankfurt is on your travel itinerary, book a table at this highly sought-after spot well in advance. Set inside the city’s narrowest seven-story building, Seven Swans—the world’s first Michelin-starred vegan restaurant—offers sweeping views of the historic River Main and a truly unique dining experience. The menu is 100% organic and vegan, rooted in permaculture and built around regional ingredients—many sourced from the restaurant’s own local farm. Guests share a five-hour set menu served simultaneously, with head chef Ricky Saward personally explaining each elaborate dish.

KLE (Zurich, Switzerland)

This cozy pub serves modern-creative gastronomy influenced by Moroccan and Mexican flavors. In the evening, guests choose a four- to six-course surprise menu focused on regional, sustainable ingredients. Each dish tells a story and takes diners on a culinary journey through different cultures, with thoughtfully selected wines to match.

Plates London (London, England)

Siblings Kirk and Keeley Haworth lead this chic eatery, driven by a love for nature, sustainability, and flavor. Together, they create inventive dishes that celebrate vegetables—like the maitake mushroom with black bean mole—while desserts such as the raw cocoa gateau provide a memorable finish.

Légume (Seoul, South Korea)

Traditional Korean cuisine meets contemporary gourmet vegan fare at this delightful dining destination. Highlights include the juicy mushroom steak and delectable desserts like hojicha and red bean ice cream. Knowledgeable, English-speaking staff provide detailed explanations for each plate, enriching the dining experience and making it accessible to international visitors.

In addition to the restaurants above, Gauthier in London, Folke in Vancouver, and Tammang in Bangkok are also in the Michelin guide—just to name a few!

Go Vegan—And Encourage Your Friends and Family to Do the Same
