The Top Eggsellent Vegan Breakfast Sandwiches at U.S. Restaurants

Whether sold by the dozen in grocery stores or bundled at farmers’ markets, eggs are a product of cruelty. The egg industry exploits hens, steals their eggs, and crams them into metal wire cages or sheds. And don’t be misled by misleading labels like “free-range,” “cage-free,” “pasture raised,” or “humane.” All chickens in the egg industry suffer in filthy, crowded conditions. About 350 million male chicks are killed by the egg industry every year—many are ground up alive shortly after hatching. When a hen’s body gives out and she can no longer lay enough eggs to be profitable, she’s slaughtered and her flesh is turned into products like chicken nuggets.

Since the beginning of 2025 alone, over 38 million chickens were killed due to the rapidly spreading bird flu virus, and about 173 million birds have been killed nationwide since the outbreak began. Even if they survived the bird flu outbreak, the chickens are killed once their bodies are too worn out to produce eggs. Each egg-free sandwich helps spare chickens immense suffering and sends a clear message: Kindness is always in good taste.
