Amazon Fresh Brings Vegan Options to Everyone

Amazon Fresh is Amazon’s grocery store. Well, actually, Whole Foods is Amazon’s grocery store, but so is Amazon Fresh. In keeping with their throw-it-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks approach, Amazon is trying a lot of things in grocery. Just this month, the company launched a new private label food brand called “Amazon Grocery” featuring more than a thousand staple food items at low prices.

Amazon Fresh has more than 60 physical stores in the United States, mostly in Southern California, and offers same-day delivery of almost three million different items in more than 1,000 cities across the US.

You have to be in a major city to shop at Amazon Fresh stores and enjoy their high-tech “Dash Carts” that know what you have put into them. Connected to your Amazon account, they let you just walk out the door without going through checkout.

Since Amazon is among the largest grocery retailers, it stands to reason that they have one of the largest selections of vegan products. That makes Amazon Fresh really convenient for a lot of people in big cities like LA and Chicago, but for people in smaller cities it’s an even bigger deal. Suddenly, lots of vegan products can be delivered to your door tomorrow or even today.

Unfortunately, Amazon Fresh does not yet allow users to filter by vegan items. Searching for “vegan” does give you more than a thousand results, but it includes some things that, on closer inspection, contain dead animals, and it excludes a lot of obviously vegan things like fresh produce. You still have to do your homework and keep your eyes open. But it’s worth it, since Amazon Fresh has countless thousands of vegan delights, many of which are hard to find outside major metro areas.
