‘Let Animals Live Happily Ever After’: Caylee Cowan Urges Everyone to Take a Bite Out of Kindness With Vegan Leather

Classic fairytales gave us poisoned apples and damsels in distress—but Caylee Cowan is flipping the script. In her dreamy new PETA campaign, the actor and fashion icon is urging everyone to take a bite of compassion with the slogan: “Redefine Leather: Pick Apple or Other Vegan Leather.”

Channeling a modern Snow White, Cowan shows that apples and other plants can be transformed into sleek, sustainable vegan leather. Her message is simple: Leave sensitive cows out of your closet.

There are no wicked queens—the real poison-producing villain is the animal skin industry.

In PETA’s whimsical video, the Hollywood Grit star opens with a familiar storybook line—but this tale is all too real: “Once upon a time, people believed that leather had to be made out of animals—that to have handbags, shoes, and belts, we had to kill gentle cows, clear the forests, poison the water,” she says.

The animal skin industry kills more than a billion sensitive cows, sheep, and other animals annually for their skins worldwide. To make room for farms that raise animals for their flesh and skin, vast forests are cleared, destroying wildlife habitats and contributing to the climate catastrophe. Meanwhile, the toxic runoff from slaughterhouses seeps into nearby streams and rivers, poisoning water sources and harming communities. Behind every animal skin accessory lies a trail of suffering—for humans, our fellow animals, and the planet.

A new chapter is being written—with vegan leather as the hero.

Cowan notes that wearing cruel leather made from animals’ skin is a thing of the past. Today’s fashion is stepping into a brighter, kinder future—one where innovative materials made from plants replace suffering and environmental destruction.

“Pineapple, cactus, grapes, cork. It’s an apple—now it’s a bag! Sounds like magic—but it’s real,” Cowan says.

Cowan’s campaign was brought to life with accessories from forward-thinking brands embracing animal-friendly fashion, including an elegant vegan bag from Miomojo. The designer is among the many PETA Business Friends showing consumers that kind fashion isn’t just a dream—it’s already here.

Instead of asking the mirror who’s the fairest, ask who’s the kindest.

Every animal is someone, from cows who nurture their babies, to sheep who form lifelong friendships with their fellow flock members. Animals’ skin, feathers, and fur belongs to them.

“Choose vegan leather, and let animals live happily ever after,” Cowan says.
