Urge Radio City to Leave Animals Out of Its Christmas Spectacular
Being hauled from city to city in cramped trucks, stored backstage like props, and subjected to disorienting lights and loud crowds is anything but spectacular for animals, yet that’s exactly what happens to those exploited in Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular, and we need your help to end this abuse.
Most Hollywood productions use special effects to leave animals alone, and successful New York productions like Broadway’s The Lion King use intricate puppetry and other creative methods to tell animals’ stories in their shows. The Christmas Spectacular has already been changing to include digital projections and drones, so making the switch to stop using live animals only makes sense.
Take the steps below to urge Radio City Music Hall to make the holiday season festive for everyone by ending the use of animals in its Christmas Spectacular:
1. Send a polite email to James Dolan, CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainment, which owns Radio City Music Hall. Tell him you want the Christmas Spectacular to go animal-free.
2. Comment on Radio City Music Hall’s social media pages to let them know that no venue should exploit animals in live nativities or shows.
3. On Radio City Music Hall’s website, use the chat feature in the bottom right corner to leave web feedback asking it to stop using animals in the Christmas Spectacular.
4. Call Radio City Music Hall at 212-465-6225. Press 3, then 4, then stay on the line through the automated message until you’re redirected to a representative. Once connected, politely ask that the Christmas Spectacular go animal-free.
5. Take action on our alert to ask Radio City Music Hall not to use live animals in future shows. Christmas Spectacular already features immensely talented human performers, and reinventing the show to dazzle audiences without exploiting animals would truly align with the Christmas spirit.
Thank you for your compassion for animals.
