San Francisco: Urge the Board of Supervisors to Ban Cruel Glue Traps Now!

Last week, the San Francisco Commission of Animal Control and Welfare took a big step toward protecting small animals by unanimously voting in support of a city-wide ban on cruel glue traps. The Board of Supervisors will now consider the issue, so it’s critical that they hear from animal defenders across San Francisco and be reminded why banning glue traps is a top priority.

Glue traps inflict excruciating suffering on mice, birds, chipmunks, lizards, bats, squirrels, and other animals small enough to get caught in the glue. They can take days to die of starvation, dehydration, or blood loss while they cry out in terror and agony. As they struggle to free themselves, animals will often rip off chunks of their fur, feathers, or skin, and some even chew through their own limbs in a desperate attempt to escape. Others suffocate to death after their mouths and nostrils become glued shut.

By banning glue traps, San Francisco would join an ever-growing list of places—including England, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland, Wales, much of Australia and Belgium, two other U.S. cities, and more than 30 states and union territories in India—that have already outlawed these cruel devices.

Please email your Supervisor and encourage them to support a ban on glue traps! Click the button below to find your Supervisor’s email address by entering your street address. Make sure to sign the letter with your full name and street address.
