Fox Family Reportedly Being Killed at Penderbrook Golf Club in Fairfax, Virginia
Update (May 23, 2025): We understand that the traps remained set until the golf club’s contract with the trapper ended. Please urge the decision makers to forgo trapping in the future.
Original post:
PETA has learned of a fox cull reportedly underway at Penderbrook Golf Club in Fairfax, VA, where steel-jaw (leghold) traps are allegedly set around the property. Making matters worse, these medieval devices can cause lacerations, dislocations, fractures, and even nerve damage. And their victims can become so severely stressed that they chew or twist off their own limbs in desperate attempts to escape. Some may die from dehydration, starvation, or exposure to the elements while “waiting” for the trapper to kill them otherwise (such as by gassing or gunshot). Trapping initiatives also tear wild families apart, leave orphaned young to starve, and pose risks to anyone coming across them, including birds of prey, dogs, cats, deer, and more. Further, lethal methods simply never work to control wild populations in the long run, as survivors and inevitable newcomers continue to proliferate due to still-available resources.

PETA shared tried-and-true humane methods of wildlife control with management and urged them to halt this massacre, but we haven’t heard back. Your voice is needed! Please politely contact the following decision makers and ask them to immediately put a stop to this incredibly cruel and pointless initiative! Then please share this alert far and wide.
