Victory! Cruel Elephant Shows Stopped by Colorado Parks & Wildlife

Despite a Colorado law that bans certain traveling animal acts, Colorado Parks & Wildlife (“CPW”) was considering a license application for elephants to perform at the Colorado Renaissance Festival, again. PETA, Compassion Works International, and other groups jumped into action—supporters in Colorado used their voices, and they were heard! Colorado Parks & Wildlife denied the license application, ensuring that elephants will not be exploited at the upcoming festival.

These exploitative shows forced elephants to perform unnatural behaviors that they would never do in the wild. Elephants used in shows like these were beaten with bull hooks (sharp metal sticks that resemble a fireplace poker) from a young age and remain terrified of the weapons their abusers carry. The exhibitors and the Colorado Renaissance Festival were claiming that these shows are “educational” to exploit an exception to the law.

This is not education. It is exploitation, and Colorado Parks & Wildlife was right to deny the license. Thank you to everyone who sent an email on behalf of these elephants!

But, don’t leave yet—other Renaissance Fairs are still exploiting elephants! Use the button below to contact other Renaissance Fairs and tell them to stop abusing animals:
