Update: Disaster Response Personnel Have Received the Needed Clearance to Begin Ground Operations in Los Angeles

Update (January 15, 2025): After hearing from the public, the City of Los Angeles has formally authorized animal disaster response teams to assist with evacuations and search-and-rescue efforts for animals left behind in areas affected by fires. At the request of disaster response personnel the city has also set up a designated hotline to report animals in need of search and rescue. Thanks to everyone who took action on this issue!

The Palisades fire has been raging in Los Angeles for almost a week, and many animals remain trapped in those burn zones without food, water, or medical care. Waiting rescue teams have been unable to reach them and formal appeals to the city have gone unanswered. Please urge Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass to immediately authorize approved animal disaster response teams to assist with evacuations and search-and-rescue efforts for animals left behind in these areas.
