2026 Virginia Legislation
As a Virginia resident and animal advocate, you helped pass the “Beagle Bills” in 2022, transparency measures for facilities that experiment on animals in 2023, a ban on the use of bullhooks in 2024, and much more! Together, we make history. Throughout the 2026 session, PETA will be lobbying for legislation at the Virginia General Assembly, and you are in a unique and important position to be a voice for animals!

Bills are still “dropping,” but as of now, we know we will need your support on our bills to:
- Prohibit premature separation of captive exotic mammals from their mothers
- Ban debarking, the cruel surgical reduction or removal of a dog’s vocal cords
As valued Virginia members and supporters, you have the power to make a real difference for animals in our state! Please bookmark this page to keep an eye on important Virginia legislation and get ready to take action for animals in 2026.
Read about and take action on the following bills:
Help Protect Captive Wild Mammals and Their Babies by Speaking Up to Support HB 112 and SB 344!
Take action to support HB 112 and SB 344, which would prevent breeders and dealers from separating from their mothers unweaned animals who are under four months of age. The bills would also prohibit breeding animals of different species to create so-called hybrid animals, something that no responsible outfit does.
Urge Your Senator to Vote Yes on SB 707 to Prohibit Debarking Surgery on Dogs in Virginia!
Introduced by Senator J.D. “Danny” Diggs (Senate District 24), SB 707 would prohibit veterinarians from performing a surgical devocalization procedure except when necessary to treat or relieve injury, disease, or congenital defect that is causing or may cause the dog physical pain or harm.
Thank you for your compassion for animals!
