Jane Velez-Mitchell Takes Issue With Junk Food

On her nightly HLN show Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell, the energetic host tackles the biggest news stories of the day with wit and a no-holds-barred commitment to exposing the truth. As a New York Times best-selling author, Jane brings that same passion to her writing-including in her latest book, Addict Nation: An Intervention for America, an exposé on the U.S.’ unhealthy food addiction.

Now, our habits wouldn’t be so bad if we were gulping down greens. But as Jane points out, what we’re usually choosing (and what makes 15 percent of American children overweight or obese) is junk food-fast food, cholesterol-laden calorie bombs, and food teeming with artery-clogging animal fat.

Jane sees this as an epidemic. She argues that we have an addiction that is fueled by the media, the government, and individuals who romanticize the very things that are damaging our health and who declare them not only acceptable but also necessary. A former junk-food junkie, Jane is now a vegan  who knows firsthand how healthy a plant-based diet can be. She hopes that by sharing what she has learned through her own experience and research, she can help others realize the great rewards that a few simple everyday changes can have on our health, animals, and the planet.

If you live in the Manhattan area and would like to meet Jane and have her sign your copy of Addict Nation: An Intervention for America, you can check out her special appearance at Borders (on the second floor of the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle) at 6 p.m. on Friday, February 4.
