PETA has posted a billboard near the state Capitol calling out Gov. Kevin Stitt for declaring a week in March “Meat All Week” as a jab at Colorado’s meat-free day and encouraging people to opt for healthy, eco- and animal-friendly vegan food, a trend that doesn’t depend on being beholden to a destructive industry.

“Governor Stitt must have lard on the brain if he imagines that he can stall the vegan revolution by pushing people to eat more meat,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “PETA encourages people to ignore this act of political desperation and see the meat industry for what it is—a planet-polluting, artery-clogging, animal-killing disaster.”

In addition to killing other forms of life who are capable of feeling as much as or more than Stitt, the meat industry pollutes waterways with factory-farm effluent; is linked to heart attacks, obesity, strokes, high blood pressure, cancer, and diabetes; operates filthy slaughterhouses in which workers have been exposed to COVID-19 (some of whom have died of it); and poses a risk for future epidemics and pandemics. SARS, swine flu, bird flu, and COVID-19 all stemmed from confining and killing animals for food.

PETA offers delicious meatless recipes on its website and a vegan starter kit filled with tips.

The billboard is located at 1245 S.E. 15th St.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
