Tiny Kitten Saved From Storm Drain in the Nick of Time (PETA Video)

As a new PETA video released today shows, a tiny kitten was recently at the center of a big drama in Chesapeake, Virginia. A concerned woman heard frantic cries coming from inside a storm drain and alerted PETA, whose first responders rushed to the scene and tried for hours to locate the terrified kitten, who was hiding inside the dark, dank drain.

With no sign of him, they set a humane trap—and after a long, tense night, they finally managed to pull the soaking wet, starving kitten to safety. After a hearty meal and a bath, the kitten, now named Mikey, fell fast asleep. Now, Mikey is thriving in foster care—and he’s up for adoption.

“Lucky little Mikey can wash this trauma down the drain, as he’ll soon have a loving family who’ll make sure that he stays warm, safe, and dry,” says PETA Vice President Colleen O’Brien. “PETA encourages animal guardians to keep their cats indoors, where they’ll be protected from cars, predators, cruel people—and sneaky storm drains.”
