Earlier today, a group of PETA supporters descended on the Smithfield-owned Farmer John slaughterhouse in Vernon—where more than 150 workers have tested positive for COVID-19—to “update” its well-known (but misleading) outdoor mural depicting images of happy pigs. The finished product gives passersby a better idea of what really happens to smart, sensitive pigs inside the slaughterhouse’s walls.

Photos of the protest art and video appear here.

“Farmer John is masking its revolting, cruel slaughterhouse with a ridiculous mural and pretending that pigs are happy to be turned into Dodger Dogs,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “It’s time to go vegan for everyone’s sake, the pigs’, the workers’, and our families’.”
