Right now, every day may feel like “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work” Day—but in a new video lesson from TeachKind, PETA’s humane education division, PETA Science Education Manager Samantha Suiter and her daughter, Elliot, really embrace the special day by teaming up to demonstrate how to use SynFrogTM, a new hyper-realistic synthetic frog that can replace real frogs in classroom dissection.

The video lesson—which is part of TeachKind’s effort to help parents navigate working from home while educating their kids—is available here, and accompanying worksheets are available here.

“SynFrog features removable and anatomically correct organs, it’s free of formaldehyde, and no frogs are killed for it,” says PETA Director of Student Campaigns and Influence Rachelle Owen. “From the classroom to the home, PETA and TeachKind are happy to provide teachers, students, and parents with educational tools that make learning fun and effective, not fatal.”

Created through a partnership between PETA and SynDaver—the world’s leading manufacturer of hyper-realistic synthetic human and animal surgical trainers—SynFrog can completely replace the use of frogs for dissection in K–12 and collegiate science classes. At least 3 million frogs are killed annually for such lessons, even though they’ve been shown to foster callousness toward animals, turn off some students from careers in science, and contribute to frogs’ declining population in the wild.

In addition to making this lesson available to educators and students for free, TeachKind is also offering to donate SynFrog to teachers who want to make their own instructional videos.

PETA and TeachKind—whose mottos read, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—oppose speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit TeachKind.org.
