Please see the following statement from PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in response to Florida’s increased efforts to kill Burmese pythons by hiring 50 additional hunters, expanding their land access, and allowing the use of firearms:

If these animals are to be sentenced to death for ending up in Florida through no fault of their own, PETA asks the state to instruct hunters how to aim their shots so as to dispatch the snakes humanely. We are calling on the state to prioritize minimizing pythons’ suffering just as much as it does wiping them out.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
