A “blood-spattered sheep” will lead a group of PETA supporters in a spirited protest outside the U.S. headquarters of boohoo, which recently retracted its pledge to ban wool across its brands, including Nasty Gal, PrettyLittleThing, and boohooMAN.

When:    Tuesday, April 16, 12 noon

Where:    boohoo, 8431 Melrose Pl. (at the intersection with N. Croft Avenue), West Hollywood

boohoo’s original pledge to stop selling wool by the autumn/winter 2019 season came after the brand learned about the systemic cruelty in the wool industry. Since 2014, PETA has released 11 exposés of 99 sheep-shearing facilities on four continents, and the most recent exposés—recorded on sheep farms in Australia, the world’s largest exporter of wool—reveal that workers beat petrified sheep, mutilated them, and slit the throats of fully conscious animals. One sheep kicked for nearly a minute after the manager began cutting her throat, and he said that some kick for a “bloody couple of minutes.”

“No sweater or scarf is worth supporting an industry in which gentle sheep are kicked, punched, or killed on the shearing shed floor,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on boohoo to make good on its promise to stop selling wool and stop profiting from cruelty to sheep.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.
