PETA’s ‘Donald Trump Jr.’ Halloween Costume Lets the Leopard Win
As Halloween is approaching, PETA is accepting preorders for its limited-edition Donald Trump Jr. Halloween costume. In a twist on the trophy-hunting photo that showed the Trump brothers grinning while clutching the body of a dead leopard, PETA’s Halloween costume includes a “bloody” camouflage jacket (with a name tag reading, “half-cocked”) and a red cap bearing Don Jr.’s name, and it comes with a huge, plush leopard in a pouncing position. All profits from sales of the costume will go directly to support PETA’s lifesaving work for wild animals.
“There’s nothing more frightful than an entitled ghoul who gets his kicks from gunning down wild animals,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “This Halloween, PETA will help people poke fun at someone who believes that the world and its wildlife are here for him to take.”
Hunters kill millions of animals every year and have contributed to the extinction of species all over the world—including the Tasmanian tiger and the great auk—and leopard populations in sub-Saharan African have plummeted by more than 30 percent in the last 25 years. Unlike natural predators, who kill primarily sick and weak individuals, trophy hunters specifically seek out large, healthy animals who are needed to keep populations strong. Animals who are injured but not killed by hunters escape only to die slowly and painfully from blood loss and starvation.
PETA previously targeted Trump Jr. in a border billboard, offered $100,000 to the struggling National Rifle Association if it agreed to stop promoting assault weapons and to ban Trump Jr. and other trophy hunters, and sent Huntsman Condoms to hunters around the world—including Trump Jr. and his brother, Eric—to encourage them to stop reproducing.
Majestic wild animals will continue to be slaughtered to boost the egos of insecure hunters who have something to prove and to fulfill their perverse sense of “fun” as long as they can ship heads, tails, and skins back home. Join us in telling UPS that supporting trophy hunts is unacceptable.
