What:    Wearing wings, a white gown, and a pageant sash reading “Angel,” telenovela star and former Miss Universe Alicia Machado appears with a fluffy cat in a new PETA Latino ad that proclaims, “Be an ‘Angel’ for Animals. Spay or Neuter, and Save Lives.” She will unveil the ad in person tomorrow at the Los Angeles Animal Care and Control Center in Downey.

When:    Thursday, May 3, 12 noon

Where:    Downey Animal Care Center, 11258 Garfield Ave. (near the intersection with Gardendale Street), Downey

“Spaying and neutering our cats is very important,” Machado stresses in an exclusive video interview with PETA Latino. “Cats have a very short gestation period—three months. Whether they live on the street or in a home, they can have kittens constantly. And the consequences of this are that there are a lot of abandoned animals.”

Machado also voices a radio PSA for PETA’s “Let’s Fix L.A.” program, which shares how PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—can help Los Angeles residents find free or low-cost spay/neuter services. Spaying or neutering is mandatory in the city of Los Angeles and throughout much of Los Angeles County.

PETA will also make a financial contribution to Los Angeles County Animal Services in order to support the agency’s efforts to help residents “fix” their dogs and cats.
