Rejoice at This Happy Ending After Jerks Leave Lizards to Die on Glue Trap
“It takes a real garbage person to do this to an animal.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Loren Willcock was removing trash from one of his rental properties when he found a glue trap left behind by a former tenant. To his dismay, two lizards were encased in the sticky adhesive. After quite some time spent loosening the duo with cooking oil and gently prying them off the trap, he successfully freed them.
Imagine being trapped for days and your only escape from the fear and torment is a slow, slow death.
Besides rodents, glue traps often kill squirrels, chipmunks, birds, and even small companion animals who find themselves mired in the adhesive. These helpless animals are often thrown into the trash, along with the trap, and left to suffer until they eventually die of shock, asphyxiation, starvation, dehydration, or blood loss. Glue traps tear patches of skin, fur, and feathers off animals’ bodies as they struggle to escape, and many animals will even chew off their own legs in an attempt to get free.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has denounced these torture devices, given that ensnared and terrified animals lose control of their bodily functions—posing a disease risk to humans.
Such traps also fail to address the source of the problem, so more animals simply move in to take the place of those who’ve been killed. The only way to rid an area of unwanted guests is to make it unappealing to animals.
Dozens of retailers—including CVS, Dollar Tree, Rite Aid, and Walgreens—have banned the sale of glue traps, and more than 186 other well-known companies and institutions have banned their use, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Goldman Sachs, Public Storage, U-Haul, the New York City Police Department, and nearly 100 airports, such as Boston’s Logan International, Indianapolis Metropolitan, and Hollywood Burbank.
