PETA to Protest Yale University Animal Experimenter

Group Will Call On School to End Christine Lattin’s Cruel and Wasteful Chronic-Stress Tests on Wild Songbirds

What:    Three PETA supporters holding signs proclaiming, “Christine Lattin Kills Sparrows in Cruel Tests,” will protest at a busy intersection on Yale University’s campus to denounce postdoctoral student Christine Lattin, who has been trapping wild songbirds and subjecting them to painful and traumatizing chronic-stress studies since 2008.

When:    Thursday, July 13, 12 noon

Where:    The intersection of Chapel and Temple streets, New Haven

Published papers and records show that some of Lattin’s tests have included injecting sparrows and other birds with chemicals to destroy their adrenal glands, using a biopsy punch to inflict wounds on birds’ legs without painkillers, rattling birds’ cages, and feeding sparrows crude oil–laced feed. At the experiments’ end, the birds were killed.

“For nearly a decade, Christine Lattin has been killing and tormenting wild birds in experiments that are meaningless to conservation efforts, to humans, and even to other birds, since species vary widely in their physiological responses to chronic stress,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is calling on Yale University to shut down Lattin’s sick little laboratory.”
