Netflix’s ‘Okja’ Sends ‘Vegan Starter Kit’ Orders Through the Roof

Over the weekend, requests for PETA’s free vegan starter kit skyrocketed—thanks to Netflix’s Okja, the much-buzzed-about film that explores the bond between a girl and her best friend, the massive “super pig” Okja.

To keep the momentum going, PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—has been giving away free vegan starter kits outside select screenings of Okja in Los Angeles and New York City. And in a first, iPic theaters are already offering meat-free menus for Okja screenings—and Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema added vegan hot dogs to its concession stand.

“Okja puts a face and a name to the billions of sensitive, gentle, loving animals who are slaughtered for food every year,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “Orders of PETA’s vegan starter kit are soaring as Okja creates a new generation of vegans, one screening at a time.”
