Statement on ‘The Real Housewives of New Jersey’ Star’s Outdoor Chicken Coop

For Immediate Release:
August 11, 2014

Dogs belong indoors with their families year-round and especially during frigid winter weather, when neglected “backyard dogs” are at risk of frostbite, exposure, and dehydration after water sources have frozen. Chickens are intelligent and affectionate, and they can make wonderful companions for families who are prepared to take proper care of them with a spacious, clean, and secure enclosure. (Security is especially important for families who also have dogs.) PETA urges everyone to treat dogs, cats, chickens, hamsters, and other companion animals as members of the family and never as disposable commodities that can be bought, disposed of, and replaced on a whim.
