Media Statement: SLC police officer shoots, kills dog

Officers can sometimes resort too quickly to deadly force, and that may have been the case in this situation. As the local humane society is willing to do in this instance, PETA works with police forces all over the country to help them adopt nonlethal dog-control methods whenever possible as well as to understand why some dogs react the way they do to an encroachment on their own territory, which seems to have been the case here, as this man’s dog was shot in his own yard. PETA is relieved that the child was found but concerned that the man has lost his canine family member in a traumatic manner.
