Live in DC or Denver? Vote YES to Ban Foie Gras on your Ballot!

Foie gras is produced by repeatedly shoving pipes down ducks’ and geese’s throats and pumping large quantities of fat and grain into their stomachs to enlarge their livers. Birds suffer from injuries, disease, and severe distress before they are slaughtered. Now voters in DC and Denver have a chance to put an end to it.

To produce foie gras (which literally means "fatty liver"), workers ram pipes down the throats of male ducks or geese two or three times a day and pump as much as 4 pounds of grain and fat into their stomachs.

For years, ducks and geese have suffered so foie gras can be sold as a “luxury” product. Like humans and all of our fellow animals, these sensitive, relationship-oriented individuals can feel joy and pain, fear and comfort. They want to live, not have their body parts turned into foie gras and spread on someone’s stale bread.

Now, DC and Denver voters have the power to help stop it! Vote YES on Initiative 86 in DC and Ordinance 311 in Denver to help spare countless birds from this abuse and send a powerful message that cruelty to animals has no place in your city, or anywhere else.
