Cats Languishing Without Care in MI Need Your Help!
PETA has learned that the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners in Sandusky, Michigan, are aware of approximately 50-100 intact cats reportedly languishing at a Delaware Township address—some apparently missing eyes and limbs, and all without access to regular food, water, veterinary care, or adequate shelter. Disturbingly, at minute 46 of the October 20 Sanilac County Board of Commissioners meeting, a community member seeking action for these animals recounts evidently having been advised by county commissioners to “shoot, shovel, and shut up” or lace tempting food with rat poison as a “solution.”
We’ve contacted the Sanilac County Board of Commissioners and Prosecuting Attorney, informing them that poisoning or shooting cats is not only exceedingly inhumane, but a felony under Michigan Penal Code 750.50. We also shared the perils outdoor cats face and advised that if their county’s sheltering services are limited, they should liaise with neighboring shelters to trap and transport these animals to neighboring facilities where they can receive assessment and care they desperately need. Our pleas appear to have been ignored. Your voice is needed now!
Please politely ask the following Sanilac County officials to act immediately so that these animals don’t continue to suffer! Note that maintaining a cordial tone is essential, as rude correspondence can hinder our efforts.
