Latin American Stars and PETA Latino Honor Bulls Killed in Bullfights for Día de Muertos
In the bustling streets of Mexico City, some of the biggest names in Latin America, including Scarlet Gruber, Ana Martin, and Ariadne Díaz, fronted a bull-defending herd ahead of Día de Muertos (October 31 through November 2). As people across the city prepared to honor departed loved ones, PETA Latino’s animal allies came together to remember bulls killed in bullfighting arenas and celebrate growing momentum against the cruel spectacle.

Día de Muertos is about remembering those who have died, and that includes bulls who valued their lives. At the heart of the gathering was a traditional ofrenda (altar) honoring the individuals slaughtered in bullfights. Guests enjoyed vegan Mexican fare, celebrated the advocates working to spare bulls, and looked toward a bullfighting-free future.

Why Bullfighting Must End
In nature, bulls form close bonds and protect their families. These sensitive individuals don’t choose to participate in bullfights. Humans force them into the ring, where men repeatedly provoke and stab them until they’re too weak to defend themselves. For bulls, the spectacle means a slow, painful death.
Change Is Charging Ahead
All around the world, the tide is turning against bullfighting. The majority of Mexicans oppose bullfighting, which is banned in Coahuila, Guerrero, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Michoacán, and Sonora. Mexico City—home to the world’s largest bullfighting ring—has banned the torture and killing of bulls in its bullfighting ring.
PETA Latino has helped drive this progress, including helping to make bullfights effectively impossible in Tijuana. Alongside Mexican animal advocacy group Animal Heroes, we’ve also taken legal action that stopped numerous bullfights, including three in Querétaro and events in seven Yucatán towns. Our message is clear: Slaughtering our fellow animals isn’t “culture.” It’s just cruelty.
Help PETA Latino End Bullfighting
Every animal is someone. This Día de Muertos and beyond, speak up for bulls. Never attend a bullfight and tell others to reject these violent events.
