Monkey Mangled by Industrial Fan During Frantic Escape Attempt at Inotiv Facility: PETA Statement

Please see the following statement from PETA Chief Science Advisor for Primate Experimentation, Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel, regarding just-posted citations from the U.S. Department of Agriculture against Inotiv’s Alice, Texas, facility for violations—two critical—of the federal Animal Welfare Act, after an escaped monkey suffered fatal head injuries from moving fan blades that caused massive injuries, and another monkey was euthanized when her fractured leg failed to heal properly after it became trapped between enclosure bars:

Inotiv’s Texas facility needs to be shut down after new reports have emerged of yet more animals there suffering gruesome, preventable deaths. One monkey escaped her cage, evaded two animal care workers trying to capture her, and ran down the facility’s central aisle in a desperate attempt to get away. She tried to squeeze through the slats of a running exhaust fan, where the spinning blades inflicted catastrophic head injuries so severe that she had to be euthanized. Another monkey was euthanized after suffering devastating fractures after her leg was mangled when caught in enclosure bars. PETA urges federal authorities to take immediate action before yet more animals pay with their lives in this hellhole.
