Ahead of his explosive welterweight world title fight against Islam Makhachev in Philadelphia on August 15,#2-ranked Ian Machado Garry—aka “The Future”—stars in a hard-hitting new PETA campaign showing how vegan eating gives him the competitive edge. With a dominant 10-1 record, the elite striker credits plant foods for his knockout power and lightning-fast recovery. His message—now appearing en route to Philly’s Xfinity Mobile Arena—reminds viewers that the future is powered by plants.

“Every fighter wants to be the best. For me, it starts with what I put in my body. Before I was plant-based, I was strong. But now, I’m on another level,” Garry says in an accompanying video spot. “Because strength isn’t just power. It’s clarity. Endurance. Discipline… I’m not just fighting opponents. I’m fighting limits to be the best version of me and the best athlete out there.”
Cows develop friendships over time, chickens form complex social structures, and pigs recognize their own names—but in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, the animals are trucked to slaughterhouses in all weather extremes and violently killed.
Garry is part of a growing list of top athletes—including Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton and tennis player Novak Djokovic—championing plant-powered eating.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a pig is a dog is a boy. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
