VIDEO: PETA Helped These Six Beagles Leave a Laboratory Behind Forever
Since they were born, beagles Poppy, Ivy, Leo, Galileo, Tinkerbelle, and Walter knew only life inside cages and barren kennels. The now-shuttered Ridglan Farms bred them for experimentation and sold them to Red Beast Enterprises, a Fort Collins, Colorado laboratory, where PETA documented widespread suffering and neglect. After years of deprivation, the six beagles are finally experiencing the freedom, comfort, and companionship they were always meant to have. A new PETA video follows their journey from laboratory torment to homes where they’re treated like family.
After PETA exposed the misery at Red Beast Enterprises and the laboratory shut down, PETA helped transport six surviving beagles from Kindness Ranch in Wyoming to adoptive families in Ohio and Virginia. Their arrival marked the first time they experienced the things the animal experimentation industry denied them for so long: soft beds, grassy yards, toys, companionship, and the freedom to be dogs.
From Laboratory Victims to Beloved Family Members
After a PETA undercover investigation exposed widespread neglect at Red Beast Enterprises, federal authorities took action, and the laboratory shut down. Kindness Ranch took in the surviving animals.
Among them were Poppy, Ivy, Leo, Galileo, Tinkerbelle, and Walter.
For years, Red Beast imprisoned the beagles in desolate chain-link kennels. PETA’s investigation revealed that the laboratory’s veterinarian “debarked” dogs by cutting into their vocal cords to make their cries less “shrill”—and did so without providing post-operative pain relief.
PETA’s investigation also found that the laboratory left animals with untreated conditions, including chronic eye discharge and open sores. Between February and July 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture cited the company for more than 200 violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act.
PETA’s video shows the beagles meeting their adoptive families and exploring a world that the experimentation industry denied them for so long. Instead of cold tile floors in stark cinderblock rooms, they now have families who cherish them.
They can run through grass in fresh air, curl up in warm beds, play with toys, explore new smells, and receive gentle affection whenever they want it.
Their story shows what laboratories take from animals—and what becomes possible when animals are no longer treated as tools for experimentation.
