PETA and Monks Defend Street Dogs Under Fire

PETA supporters and their unmissable banner greeted the Buddhist “peace monks” at the completion of their 2,300- mile Walk for Peace, joining with them in asking the Indian government to end the crackdown on street dogs across that country. Of significance was the monks’ adopted dog Aloka “the Peace Dog,” whom they had rescued from the streets during a previous pilgrimage in India. Regrettably, Aloka’s legs gave out on the grueling trek (he has since recovered), but his presence reminded people around the world that dogs in India are part of a village, a community, and need protection – as all dogs do – an issue that PETA India works on nonstop. Help homeless dogs: Adopt, spay or neuter, and report cruelty

Class Dismissed! Animals Saved From Experiments

a white mouse in a tree

After discussions with PETA India, Evolute Bioscience will end the use of animals in pharmacology education – a move that will save dozens of animals every year. Using interactive software developed by Simcology India and donated by PETA India, students can repeat and refine their work without forcing animals to inhale or consume chemicals or infecting them with diseases, before killing them. Be part of the push for a future without experiments on animals. Take action

Plucked ‘Bird’ Steals Celebs Met Gala Spotlight

As A-listers paraded their Met Gala looks, PETA delivered the most unforgettable statement: Stealing birds’ feathers is a fashion foul. Our protester burst onto the red carpet, unfurled her cloak, and revealed faux feathered wings and bodypaint depicting a bloody, wounded bird who had been plucked alive. Throngs of paparazzi and fans rushed to photograph her, with many saying, “That’s a good message.” Feathers belong on birds – not on boas and outfits like the truly grotesque feather jacket Anna Wintour wore to the event. Pledge never to buy or wear feathers.

William Shatner’s Beautiful Appeal on His 95th Birthday

Screen legend and longtime PETA friend William Shatner embarked on a new enterprise, starring in a heartfelt video in which he warns, “The animals that took millions of years, in some cases, billions of years, to evolve and be part of the environment, they’re dying because of man. … It’s tragic. This beautiful planet that is so gorgeous and so interconnected, we’re killing it, and we have a chance to stop that.” The number one way to protect the animals and the planet is to go vegan. You Did It! 8 Horses Saved From Slaughter

Following a massive public backlash, including 36,000 calls and e-mails from PETA supporters and pleas from students, alumni, and veterinarian group Our HonorWashington State University canceled plans to have veterinary students practice complicated abdominal surgeries on eight healthy horses before killing them. Veterinary schools around the world use humane simulation models or work alongside practicing veterinarians to learn skills and avoid archaic training methods – like the scrapped terminal horse lab. Check out these other ways you can reject cruelty to horses

Trauma Training Transformed: PETA’s Lifesaving Donation

It’s a win for animals, doctors, and patients: Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) program stopped using goats and sheep in trauma training courses after PETA donated four state-of-the-art TraumaMan human-patient simulators thanks to a member’s generous support. PETA has donated 128 TraumaMan simulators, worth several million dollars, to ATLS programs in 24 countries – preventing thousands of animals from being cut open and killed and providing surgeons with superior, human-relevant training. No animal should suffer in a laboratory. Please urge US officials to end deadly decompression tests on animals

Ron Perlman: Fireworks Are Hell!

Hollywood tough guy and star of Hellboy and Sons of Anarchy Ron Perlman doesn’t scare easily. But he knows that dogs, cats, and wildlife are so terrified by deafening fireworks displays that they flee from them if they can, often becoming lost or injured. In his seriocomic PETA video, the roles are reversed: Perlman runs and hides as his rescued dogs try to comfort him. Watch the charming spot, and ask Niagara Falls Tourism – as Perlman has done – to stop terrorizing animals with ear-splitting blasts every day for 151 days during the Summer Fireworks Series.

Vegan Cheese Lands in United Airlines Lounges

If you visited United Airlines lounges in Denver recently, you were in for a treat: 25,000 free savory vegan pepper jack wedges from Good Planet Foods. That was just one stop on a tour, during which PETA “pilots” also handed out an additional 25,000 wedges at popular travel destinations across the US. Taste-testers returned for seconds (and even thirds) and learned that, according to some sources, animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than all the world’s transportation systems combined. Don’t delay! Give animals, the planet, and your health a lift today

SSSSSUCCESS! PETA Scores Some Breathing Room for Snakes

PETA asserted that retailers Reptmart and Snakes at Sunset gave customers damaging misinformation about snake care, marketing snakes as “easy” or “starter pets.” So we filed suit, arguing that – among other serious issues – the sellers had advised consumers that snakes could be kept in tiny enclosures that would not allow them to stretch out fully, a constraint that can cause not only distress but also atrophied muscles, reduced bone density, and a fatally dislocated spine. In a settlement agreement with PETA, the companies committed to issuing science-based, accurate care guides and agreed to stop selling snakes in Washington, DC. Help make hisstory for snakes

Victory! Fur Bans Galore!

Following pressure from PETA entities and other activists and messages from more than 100,000 PETA supporters around the world, Etsy banished fur from its global online marketplace! This progress comes on the heels of fur bans from the Emmy Awards and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ retail shops. PETA UK’s “cavepeople” demanded that Milan Fashion Week get with the times by joining the majority of fashion weeks worldwide that have banned fur. Help score another global win for animals by urging Temu to reject pelts, wild-animal skins, and angora

No Turtle Sales at PetSmart – but Please Don’t Shop There

Multiple PETA investigations into massive breeding operations that supply PetSmart have revealed that animals suffer in filthy, crowded conditions and are deprived of even the most basic care. Now the company has ended sales of several species, including turtles, tortoises, Cuban false chameleons, Bahamian anoles, and red claw crabs. While this is a smart move, PETA wants PetSmart also to end sales of bearded dragons (we have hideous whistleblower footage of their plight) and all other animals. Please tell the retailer you won’t buy anything from any of its stores until all animals have been removed from its inventory. And, please, spread the word!

Richie Kul Cracks the Coconut Trade’s Dark Secret

You may recognize Richie Kul from GQ and Men’s Health or from ads for popular brands. But this vegan’s most important campaign is stopping animal exploitation. Kul posed for a billboard in his native Bangkok, calling for an end to Thai coconut producers’ use of chained, enslaved monkeys. In a behind-the-scenes video, he explains that “animals are here with us, not for us.” Please don’t buy coconut milk from Thailand. Find brands that don’t use monkey labor

Frenchies and Other Snorting Dogs Are Suffering

PETA’s pack of “pugs” and “bulldogs” took a stand outside opening day of the 150th annual Westminster Dog Show in New York, confronting crowds with the message that flat-faced dogs are bred to suffer – snorting, wheezing, and gasping for every breath. Positioned beneath PETA’s towering billboards condemning Westminster, our “dogs” stopped attendees in their tracks, and many stayed to talk with us. A Doberman with hacked-off ears and a chopped-off tail was crowned “Best in Show,” showing that Westminster cares not one lick about dogs’ well-being. You can: Refuse to support the breeding of breathing-impaired dogs.
