URGENT: Frogs in Hannibal, Missouri Need Your Voice!

For over 70 years, frogs have apparently been stolen from their natural habitat and subjected to so-called “frog jumping contests” events at the National Tom Sawyer Days Festival in Hannibal, Missouri, next scheduled for July 4th. PETA reached out to the event hosts, the Hannibal Jaycees—a community volunteer organization— and “frog jumping” event organizers, Hannibal Boy Scout Troop 100, but our request appears to have been ignored. These animals need your voice now!

Frogs would again be subjected to screaming crowds, manhandling, and relentlessly terrorized by people pounding the ground with their hands and chasing after them. This chaotic ordeal—the very definition of bullying— would obviously be terrifying for any animal, but especially those who would view humans as predators, as well as posing a definitive risk of physical harm since frogs breathe through their skin and can experience respiratory issues if their outer surface doesn’t remain clean and moist. The ultimate fate of all animals used in these “contests” isn’t clear, but even those released to the wild likely aren’t returned exactly to where they were found, which can result in myriad threats to both their own health and that of the ecosystem.

Please join PETA in urging the Hannibal Jaycees and Hannibal Boy Scout Troop 100 to cancel these cruel events permanently and replace them with activities that don’t involve live animals. Then share this alert with everyone you know!
