Please see the following statement from PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo regarding Indiana-based Inotiv, Inc.’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company cited, among other issues, the U.S. industry’s shift toward reducing animal use in preclinical drug-safety studies:

Inotiv’s bankruptcy should be a wake-up call—not a bailout opportunity. This is a company tied to animal welfare violations, suffering and dead dogs, monkey importation and warehousing, and the scandal of the Envigo beagle breeding operation that resulted in the closure of the business and the release of thousands of dogs for adoption. Any creditor considering a lifeline should demand one thing: a full pivot away from experiments on animals to state-of-the-art, human-relevant science. Without that, pouring in money will just prop up a failing, indefensible business model.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on XFacebook, or Instagram.
