Cue the sprinkles, because just in time for National Doughnut Day (June 5), PETA is recognizing Canadian doughnut shops that dish up the most delectable donuts without using eggs or dairy—and Winnipeg’s own Bronuts & Coffeehas made the top ten list. The shop’s London Fog Lavender doughnut is a melt-in-your-mouth, crave-worthy treat, topped with a silky London Fog glaze and finished with a fragrant lavender drizzle. It also serves a Classic Glaze Vegan doughnut and a Blush Rose Vegan doughnut, and offers dairy-free milk options—including oat and almond milk—for coffee.

Chickens form complex social structures, and cows develop friendships over time. Yet in the egg industry, hens are crammed into wire cages or packed into filthy sheds where they can’t even spread their wings, and in the dairy industry, mother cows are forcibly impregnated, and their beloved calves are torn away from them shortly after birth so that humans can take their milk. Just like the animals who are violently killed for meat, hens’ and mother cows’ lives end at the slaughterhouse.
Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals each year and reduces their own risk of developing heart disease and cancer. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help those looking to make the switch.
Bronuts & Coffee will receive a framed award certificate from PETA, along with bragging rights. Bronuts & Coffee is located at 100 King St., Unit C, in Winnipeg, and is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
